Hi everybody,
this is probably going to sound werid ... but did anyone out there put weight on during Radiotherapy?
I stacked the weight on when everything I've read say's I should loose 10 - 15 kgs (currently feeling ripped off I've put it on!!!!)
Can anyone explain this to me????

No, sorry. I had radiation for ovarian cancer in Feb/Mar 2007. Certainly didn't put on any weight and I had acute radiation enteritis.... constant diarreah. I didn't lose much weight either, so maybe what I should have lost being so ill was being compensaed for.
However, overall, since the diagnosis of my disease (two and a half years ago) I've dropped about 21lb, which I could well afford to lose. The diarreah is an ongoing chronic problem for me.
Can't explain your problem, but maybe a call to your radiologist might enlighten you.
Good luck with a full recovery etc.

Hi Jools, thanks for your answer, I had a TAH + BSO in July 2008 for Fibroids and they found I had a "wee" (yes spot the sarscam here) bit of Cancer.
My Oncologist hasn't been able to answer my question of why I have this weight gain, since surgery I've managed to pack on 20kgs. I was 114kg before the surgery, I'm also 6' 1" so it looked ok but now I'm Mrs Blobby and I can feel the extra weight.
I hear you about the diarreah I got hospitalised for 3 days with a case of the D's and V's - grand total of 2 kgs I lost, I watch my diet as I'm a Diabetic so it's not a food related thing and I excerise a reasonable amount

Hi there ,
I had the big op last year and then 2 days non stop bracky treatment in Akl Hospital -did make me weak ,diarreah etc but doing very well but now I`ve been told I am on the pathway to Diabetes and this is connected to the type of cancer -endometrisosis /uterine-read on this web site some where. But my question is -what to eat?? One minute it is eat no veges as I get diarreah and now it is eat meat ,no bread,no potatoes ,only limited fruit -it is hard to find an easy snack to grap as I work ,very busy -need some fresh ideas and want to get unconfused.-all too tiring .

Hi Sarah,
I had a great deal of confusion over the whole diet thing! Your not alone!
I found the easiest thing to do is eat what your body is telling you to eat. If you feel like a lamb and spinach tart EAT IT, if you feel like a banana and beetroot sandwich on wholegrain bread EAT IT.
You might find the grains a bit rough (I did) Practice moderation you can have your pav and eat it also but make an allowance eat salad to have pud.
for snacks I found and still eat lots of rice wafers low GI and really tasty you will learn I found that oranges set me off and can gaurantee me at least an hour on the loo, but I can eat apples, pineapples and banana all ok, I'm looking forward to trying strawberries this year I was just too sick last year to try them.
Sorry for the delay but my computer died a slow and expensive death and so am only just back on the net, would love to keep in touch over the 'diet' thing
Michelle

Hi Michelle. Have you lost the weight.? I was sylph like after radio and did make the effort to put a bit back on. But...nearly two years on and I am heavier than I have ever been and can't shift it. Some due to old age spread no doubt but careful eating, exercise makes no difference. Any bright ideas?
