Hi, I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2006, 5 days after we had our beautiful daughter. I had both ovaries removed but was fortunate enough to keep my uterus! Things happened rather quickly that I wasn't able to save any eggs. I had 6 rounds of chemo and at the moment no cancer is present.

We have come to the point where we would love to have another child so we have gone on the waiting list for an egg donor but that's another 3-4 years away.We just find it really hard waiting. We have the option of finding our own donor eg. friend or relative but I'm the youngest in my family and my sisters are too old and most of our friends are still having their families but we have found 'how do you ask them' anyway?

Our other option is to try and find an annonymous donor but where do you start? It is such a big ask for someone to donate. I was just wondering if anybody else has been through or is going through this and how did you/do you cope with the waiting/searching?

Hi there

sorry for the delayed response, I was diagnosed with Ovarian cancer last October 2008, I have been fortunate enough to preserve one ovary but as an investment I harvested my eggs in March this year and I have also being extremely fortunate and blessed that one close friend has offered to be a surrogate should I need to use one, I am reasonably active in a few support groups one being Silver Ribbon and the other Fertility NZ. I suggest you look at a few websites regarding your options and support groups etc: www.nzordforums.org.nz , http://www.nz-surrogacy.com and http://www.fertilitynz.org.nz/. You may want to consult the Advisory Committee on Assisted Reproductive Technology (ACART) website this has been established to provide advice specific to New Zealand http://www.acart.health.govt.nz/moh.nsf/pagescm/7564/$File/consult-donated-egg-sperm-jan08.pdf as it may provide guidance and answers to some questions

All the best

H
