My beautiful younger sister is 42 years old and is in the final stages of ovarian cancer.

It has all happened so quickly - she was diagnosed in November 2009 and is now at the Otago Hospice where she is receiving the best care and treatment from the wonderful staff there.

Unfortunately I live outside of town and can only get to see her about once a month - I have noticed a change in her from my last visit.  She is quieter, doesn't talk so much and gets tired more easily.  She is so brave - trying to keep her spirits up and put on a brave face for our benefit.

My parents are both elderly and this has devastated them - you never think your child is going to die before you, it's not the natural order of things.

Somethimes I wish it was me that had the cancer instead of her - she is still so young and had her whole life ahead of her.

I am dreading the day that she dies - even though we have had three months to try and come to terms with it, you are never prepared for the moment it will actually happen.

I've not been into the chat forums for awhile, and am just catching up. I do hope that your sister's status (dear God... how does one say this?) has been a stabilisation OR a peaceful passing. I've often thought it's much harder for those we leave behind.
