Hi everyone - intermittently I get on the net to look for new research done on vulvar cancer. The link attached discusses a study released this month on a vaccine which seems to actually have an effect on existing vulvar cancer (rather than preventing cancer) http://www.reuters.com/article/healthNews/idUSTRE5A419I20091105?feedType=RSS&feedName=healthNews Hope you're all doing well. I had a smear done today, Ive decided to get them done yearly rather than 3 yearly as lots of evidence shows that HPV related vulvar cancer can be related to cervical cancer. So sick of Doctors looking at my parts! x Krista

Hi Krista

thanks for that.... I do lots of research into the type of cancer I have - as it is rare - Leiomyosarcoma - but also look at vulvar cancer sites as well.   I have had annual smears for many years and also get checked for bladder cancer every year.  I have had mammograms early than is recommended.  I have never been diagnosed with HPV and have had checks for all these things regularly as well.  Find it frustrating that even with a lump mine was discounted by medical professionals as being "nothing".  This is why I am working hard to try and get some changes to protocol and knowledge.  I read a report that said that a MOTHER having Cervical cancer - which my mother did at about age 55  - means her daughter is more likely to get vulvar cancer.  Will see if I can hunt that one out.
